Nina Simone, Josephine Baker, and Jessye Norman.
Through
Jazz, Blues, and Opera, this production takes audiences on an emotional journey, showcasing these legendary women as they confront racism, fight for justice, and rise to international stardom.
MEET THE CAST
Khara
KhaRå Martin
Host of the three-time CSA-winning docu-series Black Community Mixtapes. KhaRå Martin is an award-winning actor, filmmaker, singer, and multidisciplinary artist. A graduate of the University of Toronto and Sheridan College, KhaRå later went on to win the Robert Gill Award for Best Direction at the Hart House Festival. A Best Writing winner through OYA’s Emerging Filmmakers Program, her TIFF Next Wave-premiering short No Justice No Peace earned multiple festival awards, followed by her CBC-streaming documentary The Idea of The Black Dollar. KhaRå also debuted as a visual artist with her archival installation Generations. And performed her original musical play Coming Home at the St. Francis Theatre in Ajax to sold-out audiences this year. Other theatre and tv credits include Mayme in Intimate Apparel and appearances on What We Do In The Shadows and DOC.

Precious Osarenkhoe
Precious is a dynamic actress known for her emotional depth and commanding stage presence. She recently starred as Nina Simone in Coming Home (The Musical Play) with KMI Productions, bringing powerful authenticity to the role. Her screen credits include leading and supporting performances in acclaimed independent films such as Sweet Freedom (White Swan Productions), Like When We Were Kids (Matha Studios), and Salt + Black (Beautiful) (Nosa Machi Productions). With a growing body of work that spans theater and film, Precious continues to captivate audiences through bold storytelling and heartfelt performances.

Christina Smith
Toronto-born soprano Christina Smith is redefining what it means to be a classical artist in the digital age. With a voice that fuses operatic power, theatrical depth, and modern soul, Christina has quickly become one of Canada’s most exciting emerging vocal talents.
Her rise captured national attention in 2025, when a series of her viral parody videos showcased her dynamic interpretations of both opera arias and contemporary classics—amassing thousands of views and inspiring a new generation to fall in love with the art form.
In March 2025, Christina made her acting debut when she starred in the production Coming Home: The Musical Play, delivering a powerful portrayal of the legendary Jessye Norman—a role that paid homage to one of her greatest inspirations while spotlighting her own artistry and emotional depth. In April of that same year, her momentum continued with the Canadian premiere of Bring It On: The Musical, where her vocal agility and dance background established her as a force beyond the opera stage.
Guided by her mission to make classical music more accessible and inclusive, Christina continues to blend genres, stories, and sounds that reflect both her heritage and her heart. Whether performing on stage, on screen, or online, she brings audiences into her world—one note, one truth, and one breathtaking moment at a time.
THE TEAM
Monique Armstrong
Executive Producer
Monique Armstrong is a Film and Media Producer and Business Affairs Consultant with a background in Communications, Theatre, and Film from McMaster University. She is the founder of Media With Mo, where she mentors entrepreneurs and leads creative projects. Her work spans major networks like SLICE, CTV, and The Mom Show, and she has provided media support to the Ministry of Research and Innovation. Monique has also contributed to the non-profit sector through Black Women Film Canada and produced the documentary The National Emancipation Day Celebration for Canada, featuring Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. She is currently Executive Producer of the upcoming short film The Cold Ride (2025).
Bianca Garcia
Marketing & Promotion
Bianca, is a dynamic digital marketer, storyteller, creative director, actor, and influencer. Her work has been featured across major platforms including CBC, CBC East Coast, ByBlacks, CTV, Narcity Canada, and more. As a creative director, she launched the web series T is for Té during Black History Month 2022.
In 2022, she was selected by Black Women Film to attend TIFF with 15 other Black creators, which led to work as Outreach and Communications Coordinator for the organization in 2023. She curated in 2023 an exhibition at the Confederation Centre of the Arts celebrating BIPOC athletes.
For the past two years, she has been handling marketing and promotion for the largest motorcycle and powersports shows in Canada, based in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, and Montreal. She leads all campaigns across these four cities, collaborating with the top motorcycle brands in the country. In her free time, she also works at a Pilates studio and assists various clients with website and social media promotion.
